Infrastructure for Site-to-Site Working

Jaskay Technology are able to provide development services to your project from our office in Maidenhead, either stand-alone or over Windows XP VPN or with highly secure IPSec encrypted site-to-site virtual private network (VPN) using dedicated Juniper Networks hardware.

In the case when a VPN connection is not possible either FTP account based file transfer or CD-ROM based file transfer can be used.

Windows XP VPN Remote Desktop
One solution that has proved popular with customers is to use the Microsoft XP standard built-in PPTP VPN and the use the Remote Desktop application that is also standard with XP.

VNC or other similar applications can then be used to access the UNIX network.

This configuration allows a remote presence that exactly mimics what is displayed on screen at the customer's site. Everything that can be done at a PC or UNIX workstation at the customer's site may be done remotely, and with broadband the response time is instant.

It also has the advantage that local internet access is blocked by XP, for added security.

Juniper Networks VPN Connection (IPSec Encrypted)
If higher security is required, we can provide the infrastructure for a site-to-site VPN connection with a highly secure IPSec encrypted virtual private network (VPN) using dedicated Juniper Networks hardware, and are willing to consult with your IT department for approval on security. This protects the network access of many large companies, examples of which may be found on the Juniper Networks website.

File Transfer - The Alternative to VPN

The input files and deliverables for the development services will need to be transferred between the customers network and Jaskay's network. This will need to be done periodically, depending on the development service flow.

FTP Account Based File Transfer
Jaskay has a number of ftp accounts, one of which can be dedicated to you. A script can be used which takes a snapshot of the required files for the development services required, tars and zips them and, if required, encrypts before an ftp transfer.

Jaskay can provide scripts to do this, and can set the script up at your site during a visit ready for your engineers to invoke at the agreed intervals (e.g. weekly, etc).

Another alternative that you can consider is providing Jaskay with dial-up access to your network using a user authentication method such as SecurID. This will allow Jaskay to invoke the data collection script and perform the ftp when required.

CD-ROM Based File Transfer
You may wish to encrypt and record the files on CD-ROM and send by recorded post at the agreed intervals, or have them collected if it has been agreed that an engineer from Jaskay will visit periodically.
